Hawaii's love affair with sake is a textured story with a happy ending, but did you know it survived plantation-era deprivation and an infamous "Sake Law" of 1896? Things took off in earnest when the Honolulu Sake Brewery launched its Takara Masamune label in 1908. While the brewery is gone now its heritage lives on, with Honolulu today ranked No. 1 in the country in sake-serving restaurants per capita.

Our March Aftertaste starts with a brief history of sake in Hawaii. Appropriately, the venue is a place with a history of its own—The Willows, formerly known as Kapa'akea and a favorite luau spot of the alii. Fifty different junmai, ginjo and daiginjo labels will be available for sampling and sipping, together with a menu of Willows' famous Hawaiian favorites.

Please reserve online through the Joy of Sake Ticket Store.
