We all know a great daiginjo when we taste one: Elegant, complex, with amazing aromas and a range of nuanced flavors dancing on the palate. Even though this pinnacle of the brewer's craft makes up only a tiny percent of sakes produced in Japan, more than half the entries at the Joy of Sake are daiginjos. Lucky us!

But what makes a daiginjo A different from daiginjo B? Which table at this year's Joy of Sake will you want to spend more time at? Come find out at a special guided Daiginjo A vs. Daiginjo B tasting at this month's Aftertaste.

The venue for this final Aftertaste of 2013 moves to Sakura Restaurant at the foot of Waialae Avenue. Valet parking will be available on site for no charge except tips. (Expect ten minutes for car retrieval, though.) Self-parkers have the option of the unpaved lot at City Mill one block over, for a flat prepaid rate of $5. Parking is limited so car pool if you can!

Sake sampling begins with the guided daiginjo tasting at 6 p.m., followed by open sampling of 40 more daiginjo, ginjo and junmai sakes. The sake appetizers come out at 7 p.m.

Reservations may be made online at the Joy of Sake Ticket Store or by calling Pua at 222-0195. All sales are final and attendance is limited to 75 persons. See you on June 20!
