One of the highlights of the sake year is early spring, when the breweries release their unpasteurized nama labels. These sakes are bottled fresh right after pressing and sometimes shipped the very next day. The best nama releases are full of bounce and youthful vitality—every sip shouts out “Spring is here!”

One of the most famous namazakes, Masumi's “Arabashiri,” has just arrived in Honolulu. We'll sample it along with Kamoizumi's “Red Maple,” another nama label that is aged two years and has a very different taste profile.

Following this introduction, 40 different junmai, ginjo and daiginjo sakes are available for sampling. Then there's an hour or so of congenial sake-sipping enhanced by a terrific selection of appetizers prepared by HASR Bistro.

Reservations may be made online through the following link: Aftertaste Hawaii Online Ticket Purchase or call Pua at 222-0195. All sales are final and attendance is limited to 80 persons.
